TRIPLAR BOOSTS EFFICIENCY AND QUALITY WITH T.M. SAW AND SANDER

Triplar Ltd has improved its efficiency by buying a Striebig Control vertical panel saw and a Timesavers-Sandingmaster wide belt sander.

The Earls Barton, Northamptonshire business specialises in designing and producing shop fitting and display equipment for the retail fashion market throughout the UK and in mainland Europe.

"In order to remain efficient and competitive we have a programme of continually upgrading our production equipment," said Triplar's managing director Mike Rodwell. "We looked closely at all the vertical panel saws at the last Woodmex and nothing could touch the features available in the new Striebig. We also needed a basic sander that was easy to use and didn't have too many features that could go wrong."

The top-of-the-range, fully automatic Control replaced a manual Striebig model that Triplar had used for 17 years.

The fully automatic Striebig Control vertical panel saw at Triplar Ltd.

Designed for the fast and accurate cutting of wood based panels, laminates, plastics and other sheet materials, it features as standard a digital measuring system, accurate to 0.1 mm, and an adjustable precision display that can be set to an accuracy of 1.0, 0.5 or 0.1 mm, according to the thickness of the panels being sized.

Available wall-mounted or freestanding, it has a cutting depth of 80mm, a robust saw frame, a fully automatic roller locking function, an auxiliary stop section with its own tape measure, three additional auxiliary stops for repeat cuts and a small work piece support.

It comes in a variety of frame sizes with cutting areas ranging from 3,300mm x 1,680mm up to 5,300mm x 2,240mm, allowing it to take the largest panels. Fitted as standard is the TRK dust and chips extraction system that ensures dust levels are kept well below permitted European limits, and automatic moving backing support. The Control offers almost every possible option for automatic sawing operations. With manual feeding of the saw unit eliminated, the operator's job is made easier, giving him ample time to prepare the next sawing job. Ease of operation is provided by a PLC control system, with any operating errors displayed so that they can be corrected immediately. An infinitely variable feed speed can be adjusted to suit every kind of material. Sawing errors that may occur as a result of different feed speeds required when cutting 'sensitive' materials are therefore eliminated.

Numerous automatic procedures can be carried out by the press of a button including locking and releasing the beam saw, setting the horizontal cutting height, plunging and swivelling the motor, locking the support rollers during sawing and fine saw blade adjustment.

Triplar chose as an optional extra a panel lifting device that allows the saw to automatically raise the panel so that the bottom edge can be trimmed without the panel having to be turned over.

Said production manager Colin Day: "As the Control is fully automatic and consistently gives a totally smooth and accurate cut, it's now much quicker and easier to size wood panels and there's less material wastage."

Its Timesavers-Sandingmaster Winner Senior 1100C, which like the saw was supplied by T.M. Machinery Sales, of Leicester, has replaced hand sanding in a move that has dramatically improved workshop efficiency and the quality of the finish.

A component is put through the compact Timesavers_Sandingmaster wide belt sander at Triplar Ltd.

The compact sander was developed for small and medium sized businesses and gives precision sanding from coarse calibrating to fine finishing. It has a frequency controlled feed speed of 5-22 m/min, a re-programmable thickness setting with a digital readout and a fine adjustment on the aggregate. It has a working width of 1100 mm and a belt size of 1130 x 1900 mm. The large adjustable 80 shore contact roller and 75 mm wide adjustable felt sanding pad are combined in one head.

As it's linked into the mill's extraction system, the sander has substantially reduced the amount of dust in the air, improving working conditions.

Triplar praised the after-sales services provided by T.M. Machinery, who had maintained their original Striebig saw. Said Colin Day: "We have found with other machinery suppliers that they are not too interested once they have sold us a machine. With T.M. if we need an engineer he is usually here the next day, and if we call them early enough in the morning he often comes later the same day, keeping down time to a minimum."
