DAVONPORT
BUYS SANDINGMASTER AGAIN
A
Series 3300 Timesavers-Sandingmaster wide belt
sander is at the heart of manufacturing operations
at Davonport Furniture.
The
small Colchester company is positioned at the
top end of the fitted furniture market, specialising
in bespoke in-frame cabinetry. Its new sander
backs up the fine hand work carried out by the
company's highly skilled team of craftsmen.

veneered panel goes through the Sandingmaster
wide belt sander at Davonport Furniture. |
|
Like
the elderly Sandingmaster it replaced, the Series
3300 model can sand veneered panels without the
need for costly segmented pads, which reduces
running costs and prevents potentially expensive
repair costs.
With
a reputation for solid construction, reliability
and superb performance, all the models in the
specialist Timesavers-Sandingmaster range can
be supplied with the unique membrane-controlled
segmented pads for lacquer sanding. Most other
sander manufacturers use cylinders, which are
less accurate.
"We
decided to replace our sander with another Sandingmaster
as we had been successfully sanding veneered panels
with it," said managing director Richard Davonport.
As
well as the veneered panels it also sands hardwood
doors - mainly oak, maple and walnut - and MDF
panels.
Said
Mr Davonport: "It sands everything. We even put
drawer boxes and cutlery trays through it to flatten
them off, and use it to thin down 8ft x 4ft MDF
and plywood sheets that are needed as laminates."
The
3300 series offers calibrating and veneer sanding
in one machine. By combining up to four sanding
heads from the seven types available, a single
machine can take care of all the sanding requirements
of a high output business. Features such as the
easy-to-use Lindomatic control system, floating
table for veneer sanding, extraction from the
point of dust production and easy access to all
parts of the machine make the 3300 series machines
easy-to-use and to maintain.
The
machine at Davonport is a top working machine
with a large calibrating roller and a combination
head. It has a working width of 1350 mm and can
handle materials with thicknesses from 2mm to
150mm.
The Lindomatic control system offers automatic
single point thickness setting for correct sanding
pressure and a digital thickness read-out. As
this requires the minimum of setting up, even
less experienced operators can use it to obtain
a high quality finish.
The
compact sander gives precision sanding from coarse
calibrating to fine finishing. It has a frequency
controlled feed speed of 4-20m/min with work pieces
introduced on a 460mm in-feed roller-table and
delivered to a similar 820mm outfeed table.
There's
also a large, adjustable 80 shore contact roller
and a combination head with a softer roller and
a 75mm wide adjustable felt sanding pad.
The
combination head's 180mm diameter contact roller
is made of special vulcanised heat-resistant 63
shore rubber with a special profile groove making
it suitable for thicknessing, general sanding
and fine sanding.
It
was supplied to Davonport Furniture by Timesaver-Sandingmaster's
sole UK agent, T.M. Machinery Sales Ltd, of Leicester.
"Once
we had decided to buy it, T.M. pulled out all
the stops and it was installed and ready for use
just over two weeks later," said Mr Davonport.
"It's a rugged machine that gives us perfectly
even sanding every time. It has speeded up production
by reducing operator set-up time and taking away
the possibility of errors taking place."
