TIMESAVERS'
TRIO SMOOTH OUT SANDING AT BURBIDGE
Burbidge,
manufacturers and distributors of kitchen frontals
and accessories, has boosted efficiency with a
Timesavers-Sandingmaster 3300 Series sander. The
company has had a similar pair working in-line
for some time.
 |
|
| Burbidge's
latest Timesavers-Sandingmaster 3330 Series
four-headed sander has given them increased
flexibility. |
|
Its
latest purchase sands panels, as well as doors
and accessories including canopy fronts.
The
four-headed sander, with three rollers and a pad,
is 1100mm wide and features an advanced centralised
control panel and a panel cleaning brush. It has
led to added flexibility in the mill, with increased
capacity for door sanding.
It's
extremely versatile, allowing Burbidge to use
any combination of heads depending on what solid
wood units are being sanded. These include veneered
panels as well as panels that have been glued
up, which need any excess glue removing prior
to assembly.
The
panels were previously roughed out by hand before
being put through a sander. Now everything's done
in one pass to a 180-grit finish, with the panels
ready for spraying in the paint shop.
Coventry-based
Burbidge produces over 40 different styles of
classical and traditional kitchen frontal designs.
It turns out around 4,500 kitchen doors and drawer
fronts each week.
It
maintains its deep-rooted origins in craftsmanship,
whilst at the same time remaining committed to
investing in new technology to improve its manufacturing
processes.
Its
two in-line 3300 Series sanders, both 1100 mm
wide, are part of a fully automated kitchen door
production line. They are connected by conveyor
belt and sand both sides of the doors in one pass
after they have been assembled and profiled.

at Burbidge. |
|
The
first machine is a two-head bottom sander (roller
and pad) for sanding the door backs, while the
second is a three-head top sander (two rollers
and a pad) for finishing the door fronts, before
the doors are checked prior to being sent to the
paint spray shop.
All
three sanders were supplied with digital display
units. They are also fitted with modems to allow
remote fault finding at Timesavers-Sandingmaster's
manufacturing plant in Holland.
They
are all CNC controlled, after being pre-programmed
with settings for the entire Burbidge product
range. This includes the speeds of the rollers
and the height of the rollers and pads.
"Said
Burbidge's works manager Tim Foreman: "They are
very user friendly and there's no manual setting
up every time we change to a different size or
style of door. All the operator has to do is check
that the correct sandpaper is fitted. They consistently
give us a top quality, smooth finish."
Leicester-based
T.M. Machinery Sales, agents for Timesavers-Sandingmaster,
provides a service contract for the three sanders.
