SEVENTH STRIEBIG SAW FOR SELCO

A seventh Striebig Compact vertical panel saw has been installed at Selco. It has gone in at its 42,000 sq. ft. Barking, Essex branch, the newest part of the rapidly- expanding builders' merchant group.

Selco specialises in serving local trade and business customers only from its 15,000 building products available on a self-selection basis at each of its 10 branches located in London, the Midlands, South Wales and the West.

The Compact TRK 4164 was supplied together with a Maggi Junior 640 radial arm cross-cut saw and associated twin bag dust extraction units by Blyth Woodworking Machinery.

"We offer a panel and timber cutting service at all our branches as an added facility for customers," said Selco's Marketing Services Co-ordinator, Margaret Taggart. "Both saws are highly versatile and enable us to meet all our customers' cutting requirements."

The space-saving Striebig Compact TRK 4164 is used for cutting every kind of panel product including MDF, MFC, plywood and chipboard, as well as worktops, door blanks and wooden furrings for roof installations.

For panels up to a maximum size of 3100mm x 1644mm it has a maximum cutting depth of 60mm (2.5"). For added convenience multiple sheets of 18 or 25mm thick panels are sized at the same time.

Standard features include the TRK extraction system - to keep users ahead of the latest European legislation - automatic moving backing support, and the option of a scoring saw for laminates.

The compact Maggi Junior 640 cuts wooden strips, planks and lengths of sawn timber.

It has a 350mm blade with a 4hp phase motor that cuts to a depth of 100mm (4 inches) and has an adjustable blade guard to ensure total safety. Built with a sturdy cast iron base and arm for added stability, it has a self-braking motor with overload protection.

Said Aiden Nutt of Blyth Woodworking Machinery: "Selco asked us for the best vertical panel and radial arm saws on the market, which is why we specified Striebig and Maggi."

He added that further twin-saw installations are due to take place early in 2005 at two existing Selco branches.

There are Striebig saws at two other Selco branches in the London area, at Croydon and Walthamstow, plus Dudley, Stirchley and Tyseley in the West Midlands, and Cardiff.

The Swiss-made Striebig panel saws, which can also be found in branches of B&Q, are imported into the UK by sole agent, T.M. Machinery Sales, of Leicester.
