W8 ENQUIRIES HOLD UP DESPITE FEWER VISITORS, SAYS T.M.

"Although visitor numbers to W8 were unfortunately down compared with two years ago, we were quite pleased that the quality of those coming on to our stand was still very high," said Matt Pearce of T.M. Machinery Sales, exclusive UK distributors for the Swiss-made Striebig range of vertical panel saws.

"Despite there being less people around we received a good level of enquiries, especially for the top-of-the-range Striebig models like the Evolution and the Control.

"There was also a very good reaction to the new Compact AV model which we were showing for the first time. With manual feeding of the saw unit eliminated, the operator’s job is made much easier, giving him time to prepare the next sawing job. This was a feature that was met with approval, particularly from those who were running small businesses.

"Having said all that, it was quite clear that potential customers were less prepared to place orders on the stand than at past shows. This has to be a reflection of the current difficult economic conditions which we all face."

However, he stressed that if the number of positive leads received during the four days of the show were turned into the expected sales, "W8 will have been a success for us."
